Founding
After
15 years developing spreadsheet tools and reporting packages for his
employers (Nortel Networks, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board,
Ontario Teachers Pension Plan and Perimeter Financial Corp) in Finance
& Accounting, IT Project Management, Operations Management, SAP
Finance Implementation and Deployment, HR Consulting and Training and
Development roles, Tom Scott founded Jerts Consulting &
Services.

Recent
clients include one of Canada's largest mining firms, one of Canada's
biggest food processors, a retail giant in office supplies,
the
Government of Ontario, a Health-services consulting firm, a small
hedge-fund and indivdual entrepreneurs.

Jerts
Consulting helps clients solve business problems,
reduce risk, improve operations and improve the knowledge and skills of
information workers.
We have 3 primary areas of service - Spreadsheet Risk Management,
Modelling and Automation, and Seminars and Training.
Spreadsheet
Risk Management
services include spreadsheet audits, model enhancements.
Developing and implementing spreadsheet risk policies and
procedures.
Modelling
and Automation and Database Development
is the building of financial and operational models, spreadsheet tools
and Access databases (including SQL Server back-ends) to
automate business processes, analysis packages and
dashboards. We
also provide data visualization services - taking terrible looking
charts packages and making them look polished and professional, or
developing the chart package from the ground up.
Seminars
and Training
is the delivery of professional development programs to spreadsheet
users.
In
addition to delivering foundation, intermediate and advanced Excel
training courses, we also design and deliver courses on more pecialized
Excel topics such as Spreadsheet
Auditing and Developing
Standards-compliant Spreadsheets.
How We Work
We use a flat-fee approach for straight-forward development,
auditing and automation projects. We
meet and gather your requirements, propose a solution and deliver that
solution for a pre-agreed, fixed price. Post-project
support
is included in the flat-fee.
Consulting and
project management services are billed using hourly rates that offer excellent value for the dollar..
Seminars
and Training are usually delivered at the client site, though we
will organize offsite training facilities as necessary. There
is a fee per session and a small per-partipant
fee to cover the cost of materials supplied. For practical
reasons, some sessions have a maximum number of participants.
Security
and Technology
All
client information, including emails are stored in AES-256bit encrypted
virtual drives. All systems in our infrastructure are virus
and
malware protected, all data is regularly backed up
both on-site and off-site via encrypted channels.
All code is digitally
signed by Jerts Consulting Inc., using a certificate issued by Comodo,
one of the largest such certification authorities in the world, and one
of the few root certificate providers that is "built-in" to
Windows operating systems.
We will provide a
Sharepoint-based (SSL secured) site, unique to each client, at no
additional cost, to enable collaboration, file transfer, request
tracking and project tracking services (typically for for
larger,
more complex projects or recurring client engagements).
Our
technology infrastructure enables us to test on any
combination of Windows operating system, Office versions and
service pack(s) implemented.
From XP to Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 and
Office XP to Office 2010, we can almost certainly replicate your
environment.
Why the name
"Jerts", isn't it a bit close to "jerks"?
"Jerts"
is a word-form of the founder's initials and is a childhood nickname
given to him by a favourite uncle - the entrepreneur of the family.
It is a bit close to "jerks" so not necessarily a
highly sought after name. Therefore, it was
relatively easy
to secure the domain name, corporate name, and trademarks when the
company was founded.
